The User Experience (UX) Of Having One Computer Monitor
Posted on May 5, 2014 at 1:57 PM
Well...in your defense a 27" iMac is pretty high-res. You can fit more on that monitor than many people can on two lower-res monitors. I like that I can have two code files open, side-by-side, in my main (27" apple) monitor, and a browser open in the other monitor, along with HipChat. My l... read more »

Scope $watch() vs. $watchCollection() In AngularJS
Posted on Jan 4, 2014 at 12:10 PM
Wow, this has real "gotcha" implications. I'd have thought the $watch with equality flag would trigger on a rebuild and that the $watchCollection would trigger on deep values as well. And none of them seem to trigger on "any change anywhere". :-(... read more »

My Experience With AngularJS - The Super-heroic JavaScript MVW Framework

We still include jquery, but honestly? It's more of a "woobie" now. Just feel safer having it around, even though most of our dom manipulation has moved into directives.... read more »

My Experience With AngularJS - The Super-heroic JavaScript MVW Framework
Posted on Jan 3, 2013 at 8:48 PM
Doing a lot of Angular now. I thought it was funny that some people criticized Angular as being "ColdFusion-like" (because the views extend HTML sort of like CF does.) But honestly, it makes so much more sense to me to see the HTML <ul> with an "ng-repeat", than to see a bu... read more »

The School Of Practical Philosophy: Love - Week One
Posted on Sep 15, 2011 at 2:48 PM
I don't put selfless love at the top of the hierarchy. Mostly because I equate that kind of love with "The Giving Tree" type of sacrifice common to addict enablers and helicopter parents. Unconditional love? Not unlimited unconditional love. Except maybe for my children. And even then... read more »

Big Girls Like Me
Posted on Sep 8, 2011 at 7:48 PM
See now, I'd have thought you knew this...looking at you, particularly with eye contact is an "indicator of interest" or IOI as the Game guys call it. Women, particularly attractive ones, tend to be pretty parsimonious with their IOIs in the street. It's kind of hard to take it back and ... read more »

A Billion Wicked Thoughts By Ogi Ogas And Sai Gaddam
Posted on Aug 31, 2011 at 12:04 PM
Even when a woman's body is turned on, she may never "feel" turned on. From an evolutionary standpoint, this is hugely advantageous as there is an exponentially greater burden to women for pregnancy. As such, it becomes strategically smart to be able to think coherently about a situation r... read more »

A Billion Wicked Thoughts By Ogi Ogas And Sai Gaddam

Is this the one that researched Google search patterns to discover what porn people want to watch? I can't find that article now, but I remember those researchers were surprised at a couple of things: - Mature porn is almost as popular as "teen/underage" porn. Go MILFs! - While you ask ... read more »

The Most Interesting Man Alive On ColdFusion
Posted on Aug 31, 2011 at 11:56 AM
I love the testing code in production one...sadly true. Although at least I'm not proud of it. My favorite "Most Interesting Man Alive" quotes: - Sharks have a week about him. - When in Rome, they do as he does. And the best one: - "Manscaping...I do not know what this is."... read more »

Sometimes, I Feel Like A Man With No Identity
Posted on Aug 11, 2011 at 11:52 AM
@Brian Kresge CF does seem to attract certain personality types. Part of what I've loved is that using CF actually pre-selected people and companies to be "like-minded" with me and my beliefs as a developer. What I don't like about PHP/.NET is that it seems like a lot of people chose tho... read more »

Sometimes, I Feel Like A Man With No Identity
Posted on Aug 11, 2011 at 11:48 AM
@Anna Well...I live in the Metro Boston area. My point was that *culture* doesn't judge women the same way it judges men. I know more than a few women with advanced degrees from Ivy schools who walked away from their professions. Nobody blinked. If they had been men, there would've been question... read more »

Sometimes, I Feel Like A Man With No Identity
Posted on Aug 10, 2011 at 1:01 PM
I think for women, the identity thing is a little different. Part of being "the feminine" is being passive. Culture also doesn't expect us to be providers, so we're less likely to wrap up much of our ego in our careers. That said, I do know the "who am I? what am I doing?" f... read more »

The Sexiest Thing A Woman Can Say In An Elevator
Posted on Jul 7, 2011 at 11:02 AM
Great comments! I think Matt has it for the sexiest comment. But only if you deliver the line with the sideways look, held a second or two too long before looking away with a smile. Follow it up with an off-hand comment about where you're going and why you're there so he can find you if he's inte... read more »
