June 1st 2008 - National Regular Expression Day! (Post A Comment, Win A Prize)
Posted on May 28, 2008 at 11:59 AM
I would not suggest mastering regex to the average person - it's just too much information. Yes, I've read it but I'm far from normal. :) What I do suggest is RegEx in 10 minutes by Ben Forta ( http://www.informit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0672325667 ) It's a good book and I happen to know the te... read more »

ColdFusion Session Management And Spiders / Bots
Posted on Dec 13, 2007 at 6:40 PM
There are only a handfull of bots that really have to be worried about. Blocking the major search engines should be all that's needed. An alternative to all this is to have a piece of code in the onRequestEnd() that checks if the visitor is a bot and then kills the session. This guarantees that th... read more »

ColdFusion Session Management And Spiders / Bots
Posted on Dec 13, 2007 at 2:42 PM
Google only indexes about 55,000 pages a day on House of Fusion. It'll be more once I put the new SEO forums code into effect. I love onMissingTemplate(). :) (I cover all this in my next FAQU article.)... read more »

It Goes From God To Ben Forta To Us

Yes, ColdFusion is a niche language and that niche is about to be the center of the Adobe business platform. We can talk about the exchange integration, the AJaX (proper casing according to my editor) and Flex integration, .net integration, pdf form control, and other features but as another poster ... read more »

It Goes From God To Ben Forta To Us
Posted on May 16, 2007 at 9:17 AM
I'm a little upset about the meeting. It was only 3 hours. Lets be honest here:we're New York. This is Ben on Scorpio. He could have at least given us 7 or 8. I mean really! he doesn't have to be in New Jersay until tonight. 64 minutes of sleep is enough for anybody. :) But the 3 hours were well w... read more »

ColdFusion Method Attribute Output=True Does Not Jive With EnableCFOutputOnly
Posted on Feb 20, 2007 at 3:50 PM
weren't paying attention? I think the two of us were responsible for at least half of the 'write it down to ask later' questions. Some of our questions will either go to BD docs or make them rewrite parts of their server core. :) I'm still seeing strange results from my tests that still say that UD... read more »

ColdFusion Method Attribute Output=True Does Not Jive With EnableCFOutputOnly
Posted on Feb 20, 2007 at 3:35 PM
What I had said was that UDFs and CFCs run in their own 'space' and what happens within them should not be effected by a CFSETTING. On the other hand, the content outputted to the page would be affected. I've run some tests that got very different results than what you have. Oh, and the term argued... read more »

I Am Strongly Against The Rel=NoFollow Link Attribute
Posted on Feb 20, 2007 at 2:21 PM
And what are they doing now when they enter all the name/email/website/remember/subscribe info now? All a login does is bypass all of those fields. It can still set a 'remember me' cookie to take advantage of cookies. I'm just saying that it saves on a bunch of keystrokes when the cookie does not ex... read more »

I Am Strongly Against The Rel=NoFollow Link Attribute
Posted on Feb 20, 2007 at 1:39 PM
I use the rel=nofollow all the time for cf-talk, blog of fusion and other links where I have no control. On the other hand, I'm now thinking about a subscription based honor system where a 'trusted' poster can have links without it. The user subscribes to the blog/site/whatever and is set as trusted... read more »

Ask Ben: Looping From 'A' To 'Z' In ColdFusion
Posted on Dec 19, 2006 at 8:50 PM
Which is why I gave the link so people can see the example in context. I'm not saying its what should be done, it's just what can be done in CFSCRIPT: "8.6 The variable set and the end operation do not have to be numeric in nature. This example shows how to set the initial value to a character, i... read more »

Ask Ben: Looping From 'A' To 'Z' In ColdFusion
Posted on Dec 19, 2006 at 6:37 PM
This is where CFSCRIPT is better than a tag. I've had this example in my Complete CFSCRIPT reference ( http://www.houseoffusion.com/tutorial/cfscript/index8.cfm ) for years and as you can see, the only time you have to do a transformation is on incrementation. <CFSCRIPT> For (i="M";i NEQ... read more »
