  • Making ColdFusion Closures More Flexible With Context Arguments

Posted on Oct 17, 2014 at 10:40 AM

@Ben, YEah, I kinda feel the same way about closures, excited but sometimes a little confused. Your post gave me a new way of looking at it in CF (and I'm still only theoretically into 10 myself too.)... read more »

Ha! thanks Ben. I jumped right in here and then got confused. But now it makes sense. We're good!... read more »

  • What CSS Properties Are Supported When You Drop IE6 Support

Posted on Jan 6, 2012 at 8:20 AM

An interesting thing I've noticed on the Analytics of my school site is that this year (the academic year starting in September) for the first time ever IE was not the most used browser-- Safari was. The split was something like 36% Safari and 33% IE. I suppose it's all the Apple devices that stud... read more »

  • JavaScript Enlightenment By Cody Lindley

Posted on Aug 1, 2011 at 2:17 PM

I find it interesting that Cody didn't seem to include any date or copyright information on the book (not even the build-in tools that PDF's usually offer.) Does he intend this to be some sort of Creative Commons thing? (Cuz' if so, I'm totally sharing this with all my friends. ;-P)... read more »

  • Ionic ISAPI URL Rewrite Decodes "%26" Into Ampersand (&) By Default

Posted on Jun 1, 2011 at 12:16 PM

This happened to me today in fact. The problem was that Ionic was taking spaces in file names, decoding them, and then when IIS got it, it got "%20" literally-- not the encoded version--thus IIS couldn't decode it and I got a 404. At least, that's what appeared to be happening. The funn... read more »

  • ColdFusion Session Management And Asynchronous Page Requests

Posted on Oct 7, 2010 at 1:51 PM

Funny, I just ran into this problem (or one that acts an awful lot like it) recently on my CF9 installation. I have a cfm that generates an RSS feed. When the page is visited by a browser, everything runs fine. But when an RSS reader hits it, several session variables set in the OnSessionStart me... read more »

  • Ask Ben: Dynamic Web Root And Site URL Calculations In Application.cfc

Posted on Jul 20, 2009 at 12:00 PM

@Derek I have a problem with making sweeping statements, so you're right in a sense. What I meant to say was more about the relationship between Development--and I mean the earliest levels of development--and live. If I am a freelancer or even if I am dabbling in design on my home computer, I ... read more »

  • Ask Ben: Dynamic Web Root And Site URL Calculations In Application.cfc

Posted on Jul 20, 2009 at 11:11 AM

Typo line 3 of your Application.cfc hitn = hint (Thanks for this solution Ben, it's simple and elegant! Sadly, I'm like Derek and avoided the problem my having my production and development mirror each other, but it's definitely not the best practice.)... read more »

  • Am I The Only One Who Likes White Space In My ColdFusion Code?

Posted on Jul 20, 2009 at 9:42 AM

@Tessa In my experience with inheriting the work of multiple vendors is that the rates they charge do not correlate with skill, rather with how well they market themselves. Businesses are always more willing to hire the person with the glossy pamphlets and gift baskets, etc. but then not pay muc... read more »

<blockquote>...every time I thought [IIF()] might solve a problem gracefully, it ended up being too ugly to allow me to respect myself or my code.</blockquote> Man, I totally agree! It's nice when my hunches are confirmed by an expert. Thanks for the peek into CF9 Ben!... read more »

I believe in love. I believe in compassion. I believe in human rights. I believe that we can afford to give more of these gifts to the world around us because it costs us nothing to be decent and kind and understanding. And, I want you to know that when you land on this site, you are accepted for who you are, no matter how you identify, what truths you live, or whatever kind of goofy shit makes you feel alive! Rock on with your bad self!
