A Better Understanding Of MVC (Model-View-Controller) Thanks To Steven Neiland
Posted on Jul 25, 2012 at 10:55 AM
This is a bit of an old thread, but I was thinking about this the other day for a new project. If I want to be using REST for my new project and say use FW/1 how do I best set this up? Best practice? This is a new area for me obviously. :-) My thought is to I make it outside of my project and an... read more »

Let's Make A Deal - The Monty Hall Problem In ColdFusion
Posted on Apr 1, 2010 at 12:31 PM
There is a book called "the Montey hall problem" by Jason Rosenhouse, which reviews the history of the fun mind tease, and also a LOT of math. An interesting read so far, but I got distracted and never finished.... read more »

My First ColdFusion Builder Extension - Encrypting And Decrypting CFM / CFC Files
Posted on Nov 19, 2009 at 11:36 AM
After reading this I suspect many people didn't know the ability to encrypt and decrypt files exist. I wrote up a quick blog post about pros and cons of doing such. http://www.usefulconcept.com/index.cfm/2009/11/19/Encrypting-CFM-Files-with-CFencode... read more »

My 1,000th ColdFusion Post - What It Means To Me (And Free Prizes)
Posted on Jan 23, 2009 at 11:10 AM
I nominate Ben Nadel as the most generous CF blogger in the world. I have a similar story, however I went to business school. Just after graduation I dove into CF and never looked back. That was 1996. So many things have changed, however I use CF more now then ever.... read more »

The Way Of The Warrior And The Chance Not To Be Fired
Posted on Jan 6, 2009 at 2:20 PM
It is hard to believe someone would be hostile towards you Ben. Your such a nice guy! Just recently I was thinking about the lack of communication and its many consequences. In my case I was watching some active volunteers turning hostile because the organization they cared about wasn't paying at... read more »

MySQL Cannot Convert Value '0000-00-00 00:00:00' From Column XX To TIMESTAMP

Interesting I ran into something similar for midnight times and the default driver for mysql in CF 8. I intended to update the driver, but have totally forgotten since then. http://www.usefulconcept.com/index.cfm/2008/3/21/MySQL-JDBC-505-bug-with-TIME-column-and-midnight... read more »

Experimenting With Flat-File ColdFusion CFML Caching
Posted on Dec 5, 2008 at 10:32 AM
I once had a project with caching such as this and about 350,000 files to cache/store. No way to put it in memory efficiently. One thing to note about file caching to HD is that you can't simply put all those files in a /cache folder. I am guessing this is OS dependent but after about 5k files in... read more »

I reread it again on the flight out to MAX. Analytical prowess, critical thinking, focus on quality... Lots of fun stuff in there, plus the story is quite interesting. Be sure to read the Afterward that was added a few years later. I wont give anything away, but it is important you read that fu... read more »

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull Starring Harrison Ford

While I think we share the same general view on the film, we really don't view MUTT (Shia Saide LaBeouf) the same way at all. He was horrible. There, I said it. Then again I think he was just as bad in Transformers. If that guy can act, it certainly doesn't show in the so called blockbusters. T... read more »

Generic Form Processing / Emailing In ColdFusion
Posted on Feb 1, 2008 at 9:38 AM
A quick note that the to_email should not be in the form as a hidden field but rather embedded in the action page. What happens is bots look for this, and once they find the form they use it as a mail relay to send their spam to other people. Gets your box on black hole lists, etc.... read more »
