Chunking File Uploads With Plupload And ColdFusion
Posted on Mar 18, 2015 at 12:11 PM
Ben, awesome (as always)! I've got the file to upload, and it's working beautifully, but I can't figure out how to use it in a form or redirect to another page or _______ after the file is uploaded. I've looked here: http://www.plupload.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=92 and couldn't figure it out, an... read more »

ColdFusion CFPOP - My First Look
Posted on Dec 9, 2013 at 4:00 PM
When I use CFPOP to pull out .ics files, they're not there! Usually sending a meeting invitation attaches an .ics file. Do you have an idea as to what is happening with them? Thanks!... read more »

The User Experience (UX) Of Rating Things
Posted on Aug 14, 2013 at 10:48 AM
Great insights, Ben! I recently stayed at a hostel in Madrid and ended up rating them 4 out of 5 stars for staff and 3 out of 5 starts for safety. They wrote to me and asked why I rated them 80% and 60%. I see what you're getting at with the grading scale. While the number conversions were accur... read more »

The Anatomy Of An INNER JOIN Query In SQL
Posted on Aug 2, 2013 at 9:44 AM
Ben, while I appreciate inner joins, and admire your structure, I don't really see what it's better (or that different) than using a WHERE clause. Values on the right seems like good style. Indexing commonly referenced tables -> definitely good. Moving the most limiting tables higher up, also ... read more »

ColdFusion CFPOP - My First Look
Posted on Dec 9, 2011 at 8:48 AM
Call me crazy (or stupid, I guess), but I don't think "from" is that intuitive. I'd really like to be able to get the email of the person who sent the email. When I use the query object, I just get their name.... read more »

The School Of Practical Philosophy: Love - Week Five
Posted on Oct 19, 2011 at 11:12 AM
One big takeaway I get from his speech is that it doesn't necessarily mean stop doing what you're doing overall, but do it differently. For example, I really dislike grad school and dislike group work where I inevitably am doing a large portion of the work. My new attitude is that it's almost over... read more »

Posting Form Values With The ColdFusion CFHttp And CFHttpParam Tags
Posted on Oct 3, 2011 at 4:19 PM
Ben, What if you're doing this but submitting to a form validated with JS? I'm trying to log into a site where the Submit (login) button calls a JS function, which on further examination is passing JSON data. I just keep getting the log in page returned. I've tried with putting the username and p... read more »

Using CFParam To Define A Variable Number Of Arguments In ColdFusion (And What ColdFusion 9 Teaches Us)
Posted on Jul 12, 2011 at 11:45 AM
Ben, today was the first time I've tried to use more than one optional argument in a function and I was just stumped (I come from a c++ background). Again, as always, you come through with the answer. Elegant solutions, elegant explanations. Thank you so much!... read more »

Man Down: Proof Beyond A Reasonable Doubt That Women Are Better At Everything By Dan Abrams

My boyfriend usually gets up 2 hours before he has leave to be anywhere, which boggles my mind. I get up about half an hour before I need to leave. I have some crazy hair though, so it takes about 20 minutes to shower, whereas you have none! I honestly don't know what he does with his time . . .... read more »

What If ColdFusion Recognized More Truthy / Falsey Values
Posted on Mar 25, 2011 at 10:15 AM
I usually just use query_name.RecordCount and arrayLen(array_name) and len(string) when checking, because although they're not directly binary, it still has the zero/positive number duality. I wonder what the difference in system resources is for each method.... read more »
