  • Using The Safe-Navigation Operator To Safely Clean Up Resources In Lucee 5.3.2.77

Posted on Aug 6, 2019 at 1:35 PM

@Ben, Unrelated, but I've noticed you wrap your returns and multi-line string assignments in parenthesis. Is that just a style choice that carried over from JavaScript, or does this provide some sort of safety in CFML similar to JS?... read more »

Another use case of safe navigation is to pair it with the Elvis operator to provide a default value or behavior: assignMe = some?.key?.that?.is?.not?.there?:"I'm a default value!" Example: https://trycf.com/editor/gist/aef0b0d98bd2f8c285de388730de6865/lucee5?theme=monokai ... read more »

@Mike, Sorry to ruffle your feathers. I usually don't pick on egotistical people who tend to speak as if they know more than anyone else, and it was wrong of me to do so. I guess it's a Friday and I'm in a jolly mood. No hard feelings, eh? :) Five years ago....hmm...good question. Heck, what w... read more »

First the King of Pop, now this... I feel I must say a few words... @Homesite, I remember the good ole days with you. You always colored my CFML so nicely, and helped me to find/replace with ease. You were the reason I never WYSIWYG'ed. Through your code completion I learned many things. You ... read more »

Can I have your address so I can mail you a horn you can toot? ;) "A good secretary knows more than the best front-end... read more »

  • A Serious CFThread Bug In ColdFusion?

Posted on Apr 13, 2009 at 8:13 PM

Maybe the same issue here, but slightly different? I've found that if I create cfthreads in a loop, then join them and do a cfdump var="#cfthread#" the output is correct. But if I try to explicitly reference the cfthread struct (cfthread['t1'].output) it returns the same value each time. Example:... read more »

  • A Case Against ColdFusion Custom Tag Page Wrappers

Posted on Jan 4, 2007 at 5:50 PM

Ben, You may want to look at using OnRequestEnd.cfm or the OnRequestEnd listener method if you use Application.cfc. I've been using this for some time to wrap themes around content without using custom tags. Typically I'll do something like: <!--- Application.cfc ---> .... ... <cffuncti... read more »

I believe in love. I believe in compassion. I believe in human rights. I believe that we can afford to give more of these gifts to the world around us because it costs us nothing to be decent and kind and understanding. And, I want you to know that when you land on this site, you are accepted for who you are, no matter how you identify, what truths you live, or whatever kind of goofy shit makes you feel alive! Rock on with your bad self!
