Working Code Podcast - Episode 134: Ben Goes To A Conference
After a multi-year global pandemic, preceded by a declining number of ColdFusion conferences in the U.S., I finally made it out to Munich, Germany for CFCamp 2023 - Europe's premier CFML-oriented conference. At 130 attendees, it was the perfect place for me to re-enter society and talk tech with like-minded engineers. Going into it, I was quite anxious (about flying, about making small-talk, about jet-lag, about the cost). But, by the end of the 3-day event, I ended up having an absolutely magical time and I was privileged to hang out with some truly wonderful people!
I want to give a special shout-out to Gert Franz, who has been relentless inviting me to CFCamp for years, despite me politely turning him down year-after-year. Thank you for not giving up! And, thank you for making me feel extremely welcome at the conference and for always being a big supporter. I appreciate everything you do for the ColdFusion community!
And, of course, thank you to Michael, Chris, and Kai for organizing and implementing CFCamp; and, for making so much seltzer (water "mit gas") available! I can only imagine how much work goes into planning and running such an event - and all us attendees have to do is show up and enjoy it.
And, a very personal thank you so much to all of the beautiful, beautiful people who were kind enough to connect with me and take a photo. I probably spent upwards of 20-hours this last weekend trying to resize and color-correct the photos (I do love my iPhone, but there's zero chance that it takes photos as well as a traditional camera - I did my best, but photo-editing is just not my skill-set).
I hope to see you all again next year!

I thought I was the only geek that was itching to get a photo with you on your website. Then I saw how swamped you were so I held back so you could enjoy the conference.
But on our final chat as every one leaving to fly home, you asked if you had a photo with me. #starstruck

It was great - I'm actually quite shy, so having people come up to me makes life a lot easier. I was thrilled that so many people actively wanted to engage. I had so much fun!
